Orlando, Florida – The community of Orlando, Florida, is reeling from the unexpected departure of Bret Alemy, a cherished figure who passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 50. Known for his roles as a devoted family man, accomplished law enforcement officer, and tireless advocate for community safety, Bret leaves behind a legacy of service and affection that will endure for years to come.
Born in Wayne, New Jersey, to Richard Alemy and Rosanne (Lane) Huttman, Bret’s early years unfolded in the picturesque town of Stockholm. Following his high school graduation, he made a pivotal choice to enlist in the military, laying the foundation for a life characterized by discipline, bravery, and a commitment to effecting positive change.
Assigned to Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, Bret’s life took a serendipitous turn when he encountered his life partner, Jo Ann. Over the ensuing three decades, their connection blossomed, forming the bedrock for a marriage filled with love, encouragement, and shared aspirations.
Upon concluding his military service, Bret returned to his roots, joining the Hardyston Police Department as an officer in January 1998. His dedication to public service and unwavering commitment to community safety were evident from the start. His exceptional work ethic and leadership qualities propelled him through the ranks, earning him a series of promotions within the department.
In 2003, Bret and his family settled in Wantage, where he continued to serve and protect as a member of the Hardyston Police Department. His steadfast dedication to duty and community propelled him through the ranks until he assumed the role of Chief of Police, a position he held with pride until his retirement in 2020.
Retirement did not signal the end of Bret’s commitment to making a difference. Transitioning seamlessly into a new chapter of service, he became the Vice President of Program Development for Law Enforcement Against Drugs And Violence (L.E.A.D.), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting safe and healthy communities through education and outreach.
Bret Alemy is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann, with whom he shared three decades of partnership and friendship. His children, Alexis and her husband Mike, Nicholas and wife Morgan, and Brynne, were a constant source of pride and joy for Bret. His legacy extends to his mother, Rosanne Huttman, and his father, Richard Alemy, as well as his brother, Eric, sister, Beth, and a host of nieces and nephews.
