Tebogo Hendrick Maphanga sentenced to 18 years after he raped a 14-year-old girl.
A 50-YEAR-OLD MALE ACCUSED SENTENCED TO EIGHTEEN YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPING A MINOR GIRL IN TUBATSE
LIMPOPO : The police in Burgersfort Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit secured a long jail sentence passed to a rape accused aged 50 by the Burgersfort Regional Court on Tuesday, 21 January 2025.
Accordung the the court report, on 22 July 2022, the victim aged 14, was at her residential place at Praktiseer, Segorong Section when the accused knocked at the door to buy cigarettes, and she opened for him, and then proceeded to fetch cirgarettes to the other room. He then followed her, grabbed and forcefully dragged her to the floor, and tied both her hands with shoelaces.
He then undressed her clothes and raped her. She then pushed him after the ordeal and ran to the neighbor where her parents were attending a night vigil and reported the matter to them.
The incident was reported to the police. The suspect was immediately traced and arrested.
The docket was transferred to Burgersfort FCS and assigned to Sergeant Jacob Letsatsi Mojalefa for further investigations.
His bail was opposed until he was found guilty and sentenced to a direct eighteen (18) years imprisonment for rape.
Tebogo Hendrick Maphanga was further declared unfit to possess a firearm and registered in sexual offenders’ records.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the sentencing and applauded the team for their excellent work in making sure that offenders receive severe punishment especially for crimes committed against children.
